The Collectors Club of Chicago (CCC) has announced that Brian T. Stalker has won the 2009 Pratt Award for his book, "Traveling Post Offices Postmarks of Newfoundland and Labrador", published by BNAPS. The award is named for Robert H. Pratt, the eminent Newfoundland collector, researcher and author, who bequeathed funds to the CCC for an award of $US1000.00 to be given to the author(s) of the best philatelic article(s) or book(s) on Newfoundland philately published in a given year. If there is more than one author or recipient, the award is shared equally among them.
The first Pratt Award was given in 1997. Previous winners, all BNAPS members, include Norris R. Dyer, Sammy Whaley, Colin Lewis, C. R. McGuire, Dean Mario, John Walsh, and John Butt. In some years there were combinations of these, as multiple winners.

The Canadian Museum of Civilization is preparing for a royal visit this summer - from Her Majesty's Stamps, a new exhibition that will feature postage stamps and other philatelic gems from the personal Collection of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This Canadian exclusive will be presented from June 19, 2009 to January 3, 2010. For more information.

With apologies to Bob Dyer for the late posting of this item: "This is the fourth year of our Youth Activity Program. To-date almost 50 cash grants have been issued to encourage children and young adult to pursue philately. This year BNAPS has received a helping hand from the Philatelic Society of Los Angeles in this worthwhile effort. See this page for the rules and application. Grants go to school clubs, scouts, junior stamp clubs, or to support youth activity tables at stamp shows. Free stamps are also available by the thousands. Keep your eyes open for possible candidates. Applications must be submitted by May 1, 2009."

The Publications Committee advises that Doug Sayles is unable to continue as Editor of BNA Topics due to illness. Robert Lemire and Mike Street are acting as Interim Co editors. BNA Topics 2008 Q2 has been delivered to members in the last 10 days. BNA Topics 2008 Q3 is at the printer, and work on BNA Topics 2008 Q4 is well underway. The intent is to get publication of BNA Topics back on schedule by February 2008. The members of the Publications Committee offer their apologies to BNAPS members, and thank them for their continued patience. Articles are still and always needed for BNA Topics. The Publications Committee advises that 2008 Q2 issue of BNA Topics is expected to go to press this month: "BNA Topics is still far behind schedule, as Editor Doug Sayles has been under-the-weather all summer and into the autumn. The good news is that Doug is now feeling much better, and work on Q2 (and indeed on Q3 and Q4) is proceeding at a good pace. The intent is to get publication of BNA Topics back on schedule later this year (though Q4 may not appear until early 2009). In any case, rest assured that all members will receive four full 2008 issues. The members of the Publications Committee offer their apologies to BNAPS members, and thank them for their continued patience.

The 2008 Q2 issue of BNA Topics will be late. Production difficulties have been encountered, and the journal issue will not appear until later this summer. This is especially unfortunate because computer difficulties had caused a very long delay in the mailing of the previous issue. However, it is anticipated that publication of BNA Topics will get back on schedule later this year. Jim Kraemer's son advises that, unfortunately, Jim suffered a stroke last month. The good news is that Jim has recovered a lot of his abilities and progressed sufficiently at the Civic to be released to a rehabilitation facilty for a month or so.
