Philatelic Exhibits and Shows - Trials

Introduction: The BNAPS web sites presently contain examples of exhibits and presentations. During summer of 2009, we will be reviewing this aspect of our web presence. This page is being used to illustrate one possible direction - computer based presentations - to be taken. Members are encouraged to try this presentation. A feedback link is provided below for you to let us know your thoughts on the concept.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

This presentation is available in two formats, a .ppt file (a Microsoft PowerPoint slide show where the pages change automatically and have special features) or a .pdf file (Adobe Acrobat - the same information as the slide show but the user must move from page to page).

Unfortunately, the files may be treated differently by different computer operating systems (e.g. Windows or Mac). Tests by BNAPS members have shown that the presentation may not run properly on your computer if you try to run it from your Internet Browser. The best results will be obtained if the file is FIRST downloaded to a local computer hard drive and then run as a program from the computer, as follows:

NOTE: the .pdf file will download much faster than the .ppt file.

Option 1: If Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Acrobat Reader (v. 7 or higher) or a free Acrobat Reader is installed on your computer:

Click on the .pdf file link below. A menu should pop up that asks whether you wish to SAVE or OPEN the file. Choose the SAVE option and save the file to a directory on your hard drive where you keep presentations or stamp related files. When you wish to view the presentation, close or minimize your Internet browser, start up the program that reads Acrobat files, and run the presentation file at your leisure.

Option 2: If Microsoft PowerPoint or a FREE Power Point Viewer is installed on your computer:

Click on the .ppt file link below. A menu should pop up that asks whether you wish to SAVE or OPEN the file. Choose the SAVE option and save the file to a directory on your hard drive where you keep presentations or stamp related files. Remember that the .ppt file may take several minutes to download - this is normal. When you wish to view the presentation, close or minimize your Internet browser, start up the program that reads PowerPoint files, and run the presentation file at your leisure.

Group Viewing: The procedures above can be used to download the file to a laptop computer that has a PowerPoint- or Acrobat-capable program loaded. The presentation can then be run through a digital projector at a regional group or local club meeting. Dr. Jim Watt, the author of this presentation, would like it to be shown to as many people as may be interested. It will be an enjoyable treat!

Users are encouraged to send feedback to help us with our review..
