BNAPS Regional Groups

Throughout the United States and Canada, BNAPS members have formed regional groups (listed below) that meet one or more times a year. Meetings are much like mini-conventions, some lasting the weekend, during which strong philatelic friendships flourish, and both knowledge and material are exchanged.

If you love BNA stamps and covers and enjoy meeting others who share your enthusiasm, you are likely to find the benefits of a BNAPS regional group worth the Society dues alone.

Golden Horseshoe

The next meeting of the BNAPS Golden Horseshoe Regional Group will take place, on SUNDAY 24 March 2024 at the Brewers Blackbird Kitchen & Brewery (formerly Rousseau House Restaurant), 375 Wilson St. East, Ancaster.

We learned that Dr. Eric Cogswell, a long-time BNAPS member and frequent attendee at our Ancaster meetings, passed away on February 19. He was 85. His date of membership with BNAPS was somewhere between those of Derek Smith and Mike Street, so you know it was "way back." If you would like to share reminiscences of your encounters with Eric, please feel free to send them along to us, and we will share them with the other GHRG members.

March 24 meeting details:

The meeting room will be open from 11AM, and lunch will be served at noon. The set cost for lunch will be $25 (tax and service included).
Please reply to this e-mail, as soon as possible, to advise us of your planned attendance and your wish to purchase the lunch - we and the venue will appreciate this information for planning purposes.

We will follow our typical agenda for the day, from years past.

11AM – visit the dealers, talk and/or trade with other members. Our normal complement of Dealers are invited to bring stamps, covers or postcards to this meeting. New dealers are welcome. Material on hand will include Canadian postal history, postcards and stamps, including some varieties and a selection of cancellations on stamp. Anyone wishing to see specific material can contact the dealers directly or reply to this email, and we will pass on the request. Members are welcome to bring similar items for sale or trade if they would like to do so.

12 Noon - Lunch – enjoy the Brewers Blackbird’s excellent cuisine.
1:00PM - GHRG News and BNAPS activities. Also announcements from members regarding other philatelic meetings / activities of interest.
1:30PM - DONATION AUCTION: To help defray our costs, members are asked to bring stamps or covers that can be auctioned off at the meeting. Except for Canada and/or BNA "name" collections, old auction catalogues are not required as they have not been selling and can present a disposal problem.
1:45PM - GUEST SPEAKER: The guest speaker on March 24 will be Douglas Irwin. The title of Douglas' presentation is, "Auxiliary Markings during the Centennial Period." The Centennial period has been a focus for Doug since, well, the Centennial period. In the past few years you have no doubt noticed a steady flow of articles by Doug on a wide variety of topics from earlier periods - including one in the current BNAPS Topics journal on "Printings of the Arch/Leaf and Medallion Issue Coil stamps." Doug is a wealth of information, you will certainly enjoy his presentation on the 24th.
2:45PM - Member SHOW AND TELL (bring something you think will be of philatelic interest to other members).
3:00PM – adjournment so Brewers Blackbird can set up for dinner.

DIRECTIONS: [Corrections to the following are welcome!]

From the north (Oakville, Toronto etc.) and east (Niagara) take the QEW to the junction with Hwy. 403 at Burlington.
From the north your exit to Hwy. 403 is on the right immediately after Brant Street.

From the east your exit is immediately after Plains Road/Fairview Drive (be sure to stay hard right and not get on the Hwy. 407 toll road).

Follow Hwy 403 westbound toward Hamilton and Brantford around the bends near the Cathedral and then go up the hill to the Lincoln Alexander Parkway/Rousseaux St. exit. Stay hard right and follow Rousseaux St. to Wilson St., turn left and drive into the village.

The restaurant is on the right just after the Glendale Motors lot. Lots of parking behind the restaurant.

From the west: (London, Woodstock): take Hwy. 401 to Hwy. 403 eastbound to the Wilson St./Hwy. 2 Exit 58 (the previous exit is Copetown/Reg. Rd. 52). At the end of the ramp turn left (east) onto Wilson Street and proceed through the traffic circle at the Fire Station into the village.

Look for the NAPA Autopro car service center on the right - the Brewers Blackbird Restaurant is just a little further along the street, on the right. Lots of parking behind the restaurant.

See you in Ancaster on SUNDAY 24 March 2024! PLEASE REMEMBER to bring items for the donation auction – all proceeds go to the GHRG.

If you'd like to share something of philatelic interest with the group, you may send a scan of your item by return e-mail to me, and I will arrange for Simon to show it during the meeting. Please send it in .jpeg format.

LUNCH REQUEST: Again, to assist with planning, please reply to this email as soon as possible to confirm that you will be having lunch. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated.
